I just received the latest e-newsletter from the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation (formerly known as Baltimore's B&O Railroad Museum), and it's absolutely packed with exciting activities for Baltimore families, this fall!

Whether your little conductor loves trains, Daniel Tiger, or magical holiday adventures, there's so much to look forward to right here in Baltimore. Let’s dive into the upcoming lineup so you can plan the perfect family weekend outing:

  * Experience the Royal Blue Coach

Step back in time with the Unlocked program featuring the B&O No. 445 “Royal Blue Coach”. This special event offers a unique chance to board the historical coach that was once modeled after the flagship train connecting New York City and Washington, DC.

  * Tails on the Rails

Treat your furry family member to a fun day out at Tails on the Rails on Sun, Oct 25th. This is the only time of year you can bring your dog along on the Mile One Express train - plus you can enjoy a doggy costume contest and local pet-themed vendors!

  * Be My Neighbor Day

Mark your calendars for Be My Neighbor Day on Sat, Oct 3rd, a (FREE!) event focused on the importance of kindness and community. It's a fantastic opportunity for kids to meet Daniel Tiger, enjoy face painting, and participate in interactive fun.

  * Weekly Toddler Time

Keep the little ones entertained during Toddler Time, hosted every week in the B&O Junior Junction. These sessions feature a reading of "Down by the Station" and a creative craft activity that your toddlers will love.

  * The Polar Express™ Train Ride

It's that time of year to think ahead for the holiday season and secure your tickets for The Polar Express™ Train Ride. Beginning Nov 28th, this beloved annual experience includes live performances, sweet treats, and a visit from Santa that helps create lifelong memories.

Why This Matters: The National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation (formerly known as Baltimore's B&O Railroad Museum) is not just a popular tourist attraction; it's a vital pillar of Maryland’s industrial heritage. By participating in these family-oriented events, local residents are helping to preserve the rich history of the B&O Railroad while ensuring that future generations can also appreciate the massive impact of rail travel on our nation. Engaging with these programs supports the museum’s ongoing restoration efforts, such as the work on the American Freedom Train No. 1, and keeps our Baltimore culture vibrant and accessible.

Baltimore Mom Tip: If you're planning a visit with the kiddos, be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes - as exploring the museum grounds involves plenty of steps for little legs! I always recommend dressing in layers, so you can easily adjust as you move between indoor exhibits and the outdoor train yards. Need to update your family’s footwear before your next adventure?
