Maryland Science Center December News: Mummies, First Fridays, Midnight Moon, Holiday Hours & more

DECEMBER 2013 ISSUE

Mummies Time Running Short
Crowds agree, Mummies of the World is a must-see exhibition. But the clock is ticking on the world's largest collection of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. The exhibit is leaving Baltimore right after the Holidays—never to be seen again, anywhere.  MORE

Save on First Fridays
The First Friday of every month is your chance to experience the Science Center, planetarium, IMAX, and live science shows for just $8 per person all inclusive. The next First Friday is December 6th from 5pm until 8pm.  MORE

Midnight Noon is Back
Everybody's favorite Noontime New Year is back to help us ring in 2014. Kid-favorite, and Grammy nominated band Milkshake will be on hand for a concert and activities like make-your-own noisemakers and party hats round out the day. And the best part? It takes place during the day on New Year's Eve. No need to wait until midnight when you and your kids can countdown to 2014 twelve hours early. Milkshake takes the stage at 11:30am. The ball drops from high above the atrium during the countdown to noon. Activities take place throughout the building leading up to Milkshake and the ball drop. Plus, you'll be home in plenty of time to celebrate Auld Lang Syne if you can make it to midnight. MORE

Holiday Hours
On Monday, December 23rd and Monday, December 30th the entire Science Center will be open for business. Regular hours are in effect all other days. MSC is closing at 3pm on Christmas Eve. A reminder that the Science Center is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. MORE

Share Your Visit on Instagram
Digging for dinosaurs, working in The Shed, laying on the bed of nails—these are just a few of the photos posted on the Maryland Science Center's Instagram feed. Look around the Science Center for signs showing some of our best photo ops and add your own creative compositions. MORE

See All the Changes to our Website
MarylandScienceCenter.Org recently received some new features and re-tooling to better serve the needs of our many audiences. The biggest change is the site's ability to recognize whether you are browsing on a smartphone, tablet, or desktop and scale the content to maximize usability based on the device. Smartphones and tablets are increasingly people's primary screen when browsing websites and the new MarylandScienceCenter.Org now fits the smaller screens. Plus, all the info is from the same place—no need for mobile versions of the site or a separate app. Some other new features include a new searchable calendar function that lets you select specific dates and filter your choices. Show schedules for IMAX, planetarium and others are now in a table format that give visitors a better overview of shows and times on the day they play to visit. And a new font and larger type size help with readability. Check out the new site and look around.  MORE

The Maryland Science Center and The Salvation Army are teaming up to collect gently used coats and blankets from December 2nd through December 24th. Donate a coat or blanket to receive a $3 discount to see Mummies of the World and help keep a family warm this winter. MORE
